Georgia State Law requires that each student be taught about safety. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others, doing well in school, and how to be safe. I will be using the Second Step Child Protection Unit Curriculum. In these lessons, your child will learn three types of skills:
• Personal Safety. Children will learn important safety rules, such as safety with guns, sharp tools, and fire, and when riding on wheels or in cars. They will also learn ways to help them decide if something is safe or not.
• Touching Safety. Children will learn about safe and unsafe touches, and how to tell a grown up if someone breaks these rules.
• Assertiveness. These lessons will also give children a chance to practice asking a grown-up for help, telling a grown-up about an unsafe situation, and being assertive to get out of unsafe situations.
For more information about the Second Step curriculum, you can go online to SecondStep.org and log in with the activation key CPUK FAMI LYGK to get more information about what your child is learning in the Second Step program.
If you do not want your child to participate in the lessons please notify your child's teacher or reach out to me. I’m happy to answer any questions that you may have about the Child Protection Unit.
If you do not want your child to participate I need this letter returned back by Thursday.
Sincerely,
Laticia Bickham, School Counselor
Brown Bears have had a fun week celebrating love and friendship in preparation for Valentine’s Day! We kicked our week off by inviting our parents and special guests to have a class party. We had a fun snack, showed them all our favorite centers, read our journals to them and even created a piece of art together!
Julia Holley and her dad, Brock, created a ladybug from New York.
One of our focuses this week has been on how students can already “read” environmental print. We have read many popular brands and picked out the ones we love the most.
The Koalas really enjoy center time each day! We especially love sensory bins and dramatic play!
