Lavender Llamas were excited to start back to school after a long break. To celebrate the new year, students listened to a shared reading of the book “Chicken Soup With Rice”. This is a wonderful rhyming book that reviews the months of the year from January to December. In the story, the boy enjoys chicken soup with rice no matter the month of the year. Lavender Llamas got to sample the chicken soup with rice and completed a writing activity to tell what else they like to sip on throughout the year.
The Copper Fox Class has had a fun filled week learning about Winter Weather and Winter Animals! The frigid temperatures outside this week aligned perfectly with our weekly theme. We talked about how some animals, like bears, hibernate. We made dens for our bears at our tables out of blocks and bear counters and stuffies. On Tuesday we had our weekly visit from Ms. Mary where we talked about seasons, focusing on Winter. We discussed different Winter activities and pointed out some of our favorites. We read the book Fred's TV and discussed how we can help birds during cold winter weather by putting out seeds and water for them. Ms. Mary helped students measure out a bird seed mixture for our class to spread outside of our playground fence. On Wednesday, we took a couple of minutes to explore the ice outside on our playground and then came inside to "ice skate" on paper plates in the green hallway. We also collected some of the ice and timed how long it took to melt in our classroom. Our timer measured 1 hour and 7 minutes before it was completely melted. We collected the water and took a closer look. We found grass and dirt specs and decided that we would not want to drink it. We learned a new "Snowball" chant and turned our scarves into snowballs to throw. It was a great week of learning and playing!
